Inspiration Works is the name of the creative wellbeing projects we run at OTR.
At Inspiration Works we believe that finding activities you enjoy and connecting with people is essential in supporting your emotional health. All the activities we run are free and there’s no need to book – just turn up. They’re supported by regular and experienced volunteers and staff, within a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
We get told a lot that our groups are a lovely place to be, to try something new and to give time to yourself. Coming to Inspiration Works can have lots of benefits for your mental health. You can:
- Express yourself and your feelings
- Relax – which reduces stress and helps you feel more calm
- Grow in self-esteem and confidence as you take part in something you enjoy
- Have your skills recognised and developed
- Gain a sense of belonging and connect with other young people

If you’re a young person and would like to share a skill with Inspiration Works, please get in touch. You may want to take photos at an event, run a workshop during the holidays or help us come up with an activity to run in one of our groups. Ideas are very welcome!
Below are some of the activities currently running each week at Inspiration Works. These can and will change throughout the year though, so to stay up to date with what’s going on keep an eye on this page or sign-up to the OTR E-Newsletter.
These are the heartbeat of Inspiration Works! They are a great opportunity to connect with other young people aged 11-25, and try all things creative. It doesn’t matter if you don’t think you’re arty, or you’re someone who is already making art and fancy a change of scene, everyone is welcome. We run a monthly Book Club for 16-25 year olds which, in collaboration with Give a Book, provides free books to keep and discuss. The Book Club is held @ The Hydra Book Shop, Old Market, BS2 0EZ, a safe place for young people to gather and meet like-minded book-lovers, as well as read titles they may not have previously considered. Bristol Walks is our weekly walking group to boost your wellbeing – whatever the weather! Explore the benefits of walking: fresh air and exercise, make new friends, slow down those thoughts, lift your mood and find new places! Meeting on Mondays at OTR’s base in Old Market – bring warm clothes, comfy shoes, and something to drink! Download a flyer
In this 8 week course, you’ll learn about how the brain works, how to develop mindful awareness, cultivating kindness towards yourself and others, practicing gratitude, handling difficult emotions and developing a meditation practice. Mindfulness can be useful in supporting people who have difficulties with eating; it can help improve body image and your relationship with food.
