The Story of Power

So, we know where we want to get to – but we just can’t seem to get there!

Have you ever experienced that frustration of feeling like you know what you want to change, even know how you want to change – but you just can’t seem to get there?

Of course, each individual situation is different, but Resilience Lab has something for you to consider which may help you move that stone in the way. This solution is the question of personal power.

Chris Johnstone talks about the 5 shifts in power.

We are going to look at two of them:

  • From control to influence
  • From big to small

Lots of people think that power is about controlling others or the situation or themselves. This paints power in a negative light and often leaves us powerless to change the situation, because we cannot control the situation.

Instead, the power to influence the situation that we are in can liberate us to thinking that we have power in this situation. We have power from within ourselves to change the situation.

Another way of thinking about power that stops us from taking action is that we have this belief that it takes a BIG POWER to change a BIG PROBLEM.

However, scientists have said that the flap of a butterfly’s wings can cause a tornado on the other side of the continent. And changing the angle of your arm when you are throwing the ball makes a massive difference on where it lands.

That is to say, a tiny change at the beginning of tackling a problem can result in shifting a massive situation later on. Believe in small steps and tiny changes!
