Monday-Wednesday 9.30am – 3pm
At OTR we offer a wide range of one-to-one therapies for 11-17 year olds. So whatever you’ve got going on, and however you want to work through it, we have something for you.
Our team of therapists come from a wide range of backgrounds and work in a variety of ways. They’ve all been chosen to work at OTR because whatever technique they have trained in, they will listen to what you say and won’t judge you.
Our therapy sessions can be a great way to explore and understand your thoughts, feelings and actions, approach the challenges you might be facing, and discover your strengths. You can focus on whatever you like; your therapist is there to help you find your own way forward. And if you feel like it’s not working, you can try someone or something else that we offer! At OTR, you will be offered a session at the same time each week (with the same counsellor) for a period of 7 weeks, (inclusive of assessment session).
CBT (With our Wellbeing practitioners)
CBT is an active therapy. You will look at the connections between your thoughts, behaviours and feelings. It is a goal-focused practice, which means you will be working towards a specific end goal. The aim of CBT is to empower you with the skills and confidence to address and navigate situations you might currently find challenging. We want you to leave with the ability to have a more flexible mindset towards different situations in life. In between sessions, you will have the opportunity to practice the skills you’ve learnt and see progress in real time. CBT is the perfect option for young people struggling with anxiety, OCD, trauma, low moods and more.
Art Therapy (Bristol only)
Art therapy is a great option for young people who feel unsure about how to express themselves with words. Instead, we offer the option to use your creativity to explore the way you feel. Whether that be drawing, crafts, collage or something else. Art therapy can often feel like a less pressured environment to explore your emotions without necessarily having to put them into words.
Drama Therapy (Bristol only)
Drama therapy uses storytelling, drama techniques and movement to try to visualise the feelings you might be experiencing. We use playful activities that engage your imagination and/or body, for example, drawing your anxiety as a creature and creating a story around it. We can aim to separate your feelings from yourself, giving you the chance to look at them differently.
Music Therapy (Bristol only)
During your music therapy sessions, you will explore how sound and music can help to express your feelings. By tapping into your creativity, you will find new ways of communicating. This is a very supportive environment, and there is no need for you to know lots about music. We aim for this to be a free space for you to improvise and play, allowing the music to express the way you feel.
Talking Therapy
We offer a judgment-free space where you can come and vocalise how things are affecting you in the ‘here and now’ in a low-pressure environment. With your therapist there to guide you, we hope you feel safe, comfortable and able to explore your feelings openly. Talking therapy is very client-led and free-flowing, giving you the freedom to come in and get whatever you need off your chest that day.
Not your thing / too long to wait?
While we try to offer the most diverse range of services possible here at OTR, we recognise that there’s a whole bunch of other awesome agencies and charities out there who can provide more specialist support than we’re able to. If you want some info or guidance on specific issues, here are some useful links to try.
