At OTR we offer a wide range of one-to-one therapies for 11-18 year olds. So whatever you’ve got going on, and however you want to work through it, we have something for you.
Please note that we are currently unable to take sign-ups for 1:1 Therapies due to the circumstances around the Coronavirus. Our team of therapists come from a wide range of backgrounds and work in a variety of ways. They’ve all been chosen to work at OTR because whatever technique they have trained in, they will listen to what you say and won’t judge you.
Our therapy sessions can be a great way to explore and understand your thoughts, feelings and actions, approach the challenges you might be facing, and discover your strengths. You can focus on whatever you like; your therapist is there to help you find your own way forward. And if you feel like it’s not working, you can try someone or something else that we offer!
When you sign up for 1:1 therapies, you also have the option to tell us your preference for a particular approach (e.g. art, drama, music, just talking). We will try our best to give you your preference, but this may not be possible due to therapist availability. Whoever you see, they will offer you a non-judgemental space to focus on what is important to you.
Art Therapy uses different materials to help you express feelings and emotions in an individual way. Sometimes expressing your thoughts, feelings and experiences through art is easier than using words. There are no set rules – it’s up to you what you use and how a session should go.
Each week, you’ll be invited to make something, but there’s no pressure. You don’t need to be good at art and you won’t be judged on what you make or do. We’ll support you in the creative process, and it’s totally OK if you’re not feeling creative or prefer to ‘just talk’.

Counselling can be a great way to explore and understand your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, approach the challenges you might be facing, and discover your strengths.
You can talk about whatever you like; your counsellor is there to help you find your own way forward. At OTR, you will be offered a session at the same time each week (with the same counsellor) for a period of six weeks.
ProReal is a computer-based way of supporting you. It uses a 3D environment, where you can place virtual people and objects in a 3D world. You can then make these characters talk to each other and act in meaningful ways.
ProReal can help especially if you struggle with talking, as you can use the software to help you explain what’s going on.
ProReal can help you explore lots of things, including your feelings, relationships, and situational problems.
Nature Works counselling
Counselling at OTR’s Nature Works provides an opportunity for 11-18 year olds to receive one-to-one counselling outdoors. For some people it feels less intense to have counselling outdoors rather than in a room.
This kind of counselling helps you explore and understand thoughts, feelings and behaviours, approach the challenges you might be facing, and discover new strengths. This could happen as we either sit, walk or engage in the natural surrounding or an allotment activity – if it rains, there is shelter!
The therapeutic work is done in a three-way relationship between you, the therapist and nature. Nature can also help us be with and hold the intensity of difficult feelings.
Sometimes we can understand what is going on inside of ourselves by looking outside into the mirror of our natural surroundings. There are many studies that show being outdoors and tuning all of our senses in to our natural world improves both mental and physical health, helps increase our self-esteem, feel more present in body and better connected to our surroundings. This can help to quieten down a busy mind or negative self-talk, and we also believe that being in nature can refresh and restore us and help us feel more calm.
