We know that the recent Supreme Court ruling may have brought up difficult feelings, particularly for our trans and non-binary young people, and those who support and work alongside them. If you are worrying about the ruling, or know young people who are, remember that you are not alone.
Please know that we value you, and we are here for you. At OTR we hold firm to our belief that trans women are women, trans men are men, and non-binary people are non-binary. OTR exists to support and stand alongside LGBTQIA+ young people, and that includes creating safe and inclusive spaces.
Remember to:
Share Your Feelings
If you’re worried or upset about what’s going on, talk to someone you trust. Share your thoughts, and remember that your feelings are valid.
Take News and Social Media Breaks
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the information on social media. Take breaks to protect your mental health. Not everything you see is true or helpful, so give yourself permission to step back.
Connect with Friends and Family
Spend time with people who lift you up. Sometimes connecting with those who can support you and who share your feelings can help you to not feel alone.
Find your voice
At times when we feel disempowered, it is important that finding ways to have your voice can help you feel a sense of empowerment and community. If there is something you feel passionately about, you could find safe ways to get involved in community events / have your voice heard.
What we can provide
OTR Hubs and drop-in spaces
We provide safe and relaxed spaces for you to drop in and have a chat, no appointment needed. Our hubs and other drop-in sessions are not only a supportive environment, but also a great place to learn about mental health and self-care.
