OTR will be bringing their Nature Works project to Kingswood Park to support young people to engage in Nature connection and creative practice to support their wellbeing, with the potential to inspire them into working in the environmental industry.
This project will include aspects of; clay sculpting, painting, printing, storytelling, willow weaving and foraging (to name just some!). And we will be building our own mini gardens to plan in and take home!
It will be a low-pressure space to engage in creative and nature-based activities.
We will also be welcoming in practitioners from the environmental sector to talk to us about their roles and the work experience they had to get into these positions.
The sessions are on Tuesdays, 4-6pm in Kingswood Park, from Tuesday 21st April – Tuesday 2nd June (with a break for half term).
Who is this session for?
This project is for any young people who live in Bristol, South Gloucestershire or North Somerset aged 13-16 years. We are particularly keen to support young people living in Kingswood or Hahnam to join, and therefore spaces will be prioritised for those living in these areas.
If you are interested in Nature, love being outdoors, and keen to connect with others, this project is for you! OTR is experienced in working with young people from a variety of backgrounds – whether you are loud or quiet, used to big adventures or not yet keen on the outdoors – you are welcome to come and join us for a project of crafting and connecting.
The group will be a maximum of 12 young people.
How does this relate to mental health?
Nature can be a great tool to support our mental health. We can sometimes feel disconnected from the world and ourselves. Spending time in nature can help us feel connected to what surrounds us, ourselves and others, and can create a sense of wellbeing. This project will offer a range of activities, all aimed to support your mental health in different ways – creating a sense of calm and safety, having fun and experiencing joy, exploring your creativity, learning new things, as well as connecting to the natural world and each other.
Young people on previous programmes have said:
“It’s the first space I’ve felt I could really be myself”
Access Info
We would love for the project to be welcome to people with a range of accessibility needs. This project is based in the park with grassy and uneven ground. If you have any additional accessibility needs please get in touch so that we can talk this through with you to see whether it will feel possible for you to attend.
