5 things you may not have known about OTR in South Glos

OTR supports young people in South Gloucestershire too – here’s some things you may not have known about our work outside of the Bristol boundary.

1. We are based at the Armadillo Café

The Armadillo Café is an amazing place for young people to hang out – there’s basketball and table tennis facilities available, it hosts DJ and band nights – and it even has a full-on cinema (and it’s proper comfy too).

In the building you’ll also find OTR, where you can come for confidential (and FREE) support and advice for anything mental health-related. Come and say hello – just like the Bristol bunch, we’re really friendly.

2. We might be new in town – but we’ve got a massive history!

OTR has only been in South Glos since April this year, so we’ve still got that new-car smell.

However, Off the Record has been in our big brother of a city, Bristol, for over 50 years!

Having set up to support young folk in 1965, OTR really knows what it’s doing – and you can be sure that when you come to us, you’ll receive the right kind of support that you need – whether that’s just a bit of info, some one-to-one sessions, or maybe some group work. Whatever suits you!

3. Free parking!

One thing we’ve got over our colleagues in Bristol is ample free parking! In the hustle and bustle of Bristol, it can be a struggle to find somewhere to leave your car (without emptying your wallet…)

Here in Yate, there’s plenty of parking for you or your parents/guardians – you can park for free in Yate Shopping Centre car park up to 4 hours.

4. The Resilience Lab runs from South Glos too!

You may have heard of OTR’s health promotion workshops, Resilience Lab – which teaches stress-management techniques and basically gets you equipped and able to find your mojo in taking on what can be a pretty stressful world.

Well, the good news is that these sessions run from here in South Glos too. You can come and join us in Yate Library on Thursday evenings.

Find out more about the Resilience Lab here // Download the South Glos flyer here.

5. Finally, parents can get support too.

We’re really keen that your folks can drop-in to OTR to learn more about what we do and so that we can help them to support you.

When you come to OTR, you can rest assured that anything you chat to us about is kept anonymous (unless of course we think you are in danger! Then we’d have a chat with you about letting someone else know). So nothing you say will get back to mum, dad, your carer or your brother/sister – unless you choose to tell them.

What we do think is important though, is that parents are given support so that they are in an even better position to support you. So we’re hosting some parent support drop-in sessions on the first Wednesday of every month in the Pop Inn, Yate Shopping Centre (between Yate Library and the Leisure Centre).  Mum, dad, aunty, uncle – whoever – can come and have a chat with us in very general terms about what OTR does, how they can help you to feel well, and maybe then can take home a leaflet or two. Pizza and soft drinks will be provided for those of you who need to re-fuel after a long day!

Simple!
